Indonesia’s President-Elect Plan to Establish Climate Change Control and Carbon Trading Management Agency

The elected President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka are planning to establish the Climate Change Control and Carbon Trading Management Agency (BP3I-TNK).

This plan emerged during a meeting between the Executive Office of the President (KSP) and the Prabowo-Gibran Economic Team. The establishment of BP3I-TNK is an effort to build the nation’s self-reliance through a green economy.

Quoted by CNN Indonesia, Burhanuddin Abdullah, Head of the Prabowo-Gibran Economic Team, argues that this new body (BP3I-TNK) will be responsible for directing, managing, and overseeing sustainable climate change control. “The Climate Change Control and Carbon Trading Management Agency (BP3I-TNK) is tasked with directing, managing, and overseeing sustainable climate change control while achieving carbon sovereignty by utilizing blockchain technology,” Abdullah stated on Thursday (15/8).

Furthermore, Moeldoko, KSP’s Chief of Staff, suggests establishing a task force (satgas) to be led by representatives from KSP and the Prabowo-Gibran team to explore the plan in more detail.

Moeldoko also argues that Indonesia has enormous economic potential in the carbon market: “Indonesia has the opportunity to capture the large economic potential from the carbon market and become a significant source of national income, either through bilateral carbon trading or carbon exchange mechanisms,” Moeldoko said, as quoted by CNN Indonesia (15/8).
