SUMMARY:IBC Focus Group Discussion on Bioeconomy Policy and Bioprospecting Governance
DESCRIPTION:  \nIndonesia is advancing efforts to transform its rich biodiversity into sustainable economic value. On 11 August 2026\, Indonesian Business Council (IBC) convened a back to back events that brought together research institutions\, government\, industry representative\, legal and IP experts\, and civil society organizations to align research progress and strengthen Indonesia’s bioprospecting ecosystem. The event kicked off with an internal coordination meeting with 11 research partners representing 58 of  Indonesia’s researchers under the Bioeconomy Activator Program. Following the coordination meeting\, a wider stakeholders which include representatives from Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs\, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and civil society organizations came together to share experiences and thoughts how to carry out a responsible bioprospecting. \nThe discussion highlighted a critical gap where Indonesia has the biodiversity and knowledge\, but missing the pathways to translate them into intellectual property\, innovation\, and high-value products. As bioprospecting evolves\, protection measures go beyond protecting biological resources but also cover genetic data and traditional knowledge. The discussion emphasized the need for clear legal frameworks\, FPIC\, fair benefit-sharing\, and stronger coordination across stakeholders. Moving forward\, an integrated approach and a dedicated orchestrator will be key to connecting research\, industry\, communities\, and government\, ensuring Indonesia can capture greater value from its biodiversity while supporting innovation\, community welfare\, and conservation.

SUMMARY:LATAM-SEA Learning Exchange on Bioeconomy
DESCRIPTION:Latin America offers practical lessons on how biodiversity-rich countries move from promising natural assets into market-ready products\, industry partnerships\, and community-linked value chains. This exchange learning session brings two complementary LATAM models: one that builds the bioeconomy ecosystem\, and one that turns biodiversity-based ingredients into consumer products where Indonesia can learn from. Participants are expected to learn how a company creates consumer demand\, product differentiation\, and supply-chain value from biodiversity-based ingredients.

SUMMARY:Indonesia Carbon Market Academy 2026: Carbon Buyers’ Outlook for 2027
DESCRIPTION:On 29 October 2026\, the Indonesian Business Council (IBC) convened the Indonesia Carbon Market Academy (ICMA)\, bringing together IETA\, Deloitte South East Asia\, the Indonesia-Japan JCM Secretariat\, and ICGD to discuss how carbon buyers are preparing for 2027. \nThe discussion highlighted growing demand from compliance markets alongside changing corporate purchasing strategies\, with greater emphasis on project quality\, long-term purchase agreements\, and investment. Singapore’s carbon market development offers opportunities beyond credit purchases\, including project financing and partnerships\, while Japan’s JCM continues to expand into new sectors and private-sector financing arrangements. \nFrom Indonesia’s perspective\, progress on implementing regulations and the national carbon registry will be critical to improving market access and investment certainty. The discussion reinforced that Indonesia’s carbon market competitiveness depends not only on producing high-integrity credits\, but also on meeting buyer requirements\, securing financing\, and ensuring reliable project delivery.
